In clinical applications, in order to meet special purposes and uses, there are many special types of medical catheters, commonly used are:

1. Dilated catheter with capsule or Gruntzig capsule catheter

This catheter is a polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride or polyurethane impermeable X-ray dual-cavity catheter. The main cavity is large, straight through the tip of the tube, used to pass the guide wire and used as a channel for injection of contrast agent and drugs; the abdominal cavity is small, and the catheter The plastic film capsules in front are connected, and the gas or liquid is injected through the tail end of the auxiliary cavity, and the capsule can be expanded. The purpose of this catheter is to use the pressure of the capsule expansion to expand the stenosis of blood vessels, bile ducts, and ureters.

2. Floating catheter

Floating catheter is also known as Flow Directed Ballon Catheter or Swan-Ganz catheter. It is an X-ray-impermeable PVC double-lumen tube with a thickness similar to 5F catheter. The main cavity can be guided by 0.7-0.9mm The wire and the auxiliary cavity communicate with the latex balloon in front of the catheter. This catheter is relatively soft. After filling the balloon with 0.8-1.0ml of air or carbon dioxide gas, the catheter can flow into the right ventricle and pulmonary artery from the right atrium with the blood. This catheter is mainly used for the monitoring of hemodynamics in critically ill patients, and can also be used for pulmonary arteriography and dilation of vascular stenosis.

3. Coaxial Catheter

This is a set of matching size catheters. The two can be sleeved together. The most commonly used is an 8F catheter and a 12F catheter. The former can be easily inserted into the latter cavity. This type of catheter can be used for dilation of vascular stenosis of the limbs, and can also be used to exchange catheters or to expand the drainage fistula. Another set of commonly used coaxial catheters includes a 6.5F outer catheter that can pass 0.97mm guide wire; a 3F inner catheter that can pass 0.64mm guide wire. The inner catheter is a PTFE tube with thin walls and poor X-ray development, but it is easy to pass through the lumen of the outer catheter. This coaxial catheter is used for superselective cannulation of small vessel branches.

4. Pigtail Catheter

The pigtail catheter is a polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride impermeable X-ray catheter. The front end is curved in a ring shape and often has many side holes. It is mainly used for abscess and renal pelvis drainage. There are also pig-tailed catheters for aortic angiography.

5. Non-tapered catheter (Nontapered Catheter)

The tip of a typical catheter is thin and pointed and tapered to facilitate percutaneous cannulation. However, during embolization treatment, the thinning of this tube tip will hinder the release of embolization agent (such as gelatin sponge). The tip of the truncated catheter is transverse, and the inner diameter is not thin, which is conducive to the passage of embolizing agent. A truncated catheter must be used with a catheter sheath before it can be inserted into a blood vessel.

6. Controllable direction catheter

The catheter is a soft X-ray catheter, which is characterized by a traction wire in each of the four sides of the tube wall, the front end is fixed on the stainless steel ring at the tip of the tube, and the wire can be bent in different directions by pulling the wire at the end of the tube. Enter the destination quickly and safely. This catheter is most commonly used to remove residual biliary stones through the sinus tract of the T-tube.

7. Dilatation Catheter

The flaring tube is a polytetrafluoroethylene catheter with a length of about 15cm. The X-ray is permeable, hard and thin, and it is used to expand the skin and subcutaneous tissue, creating a pore, making the catheter easy to pass, and using the percutaneous puncture method smoothly Insert the blood vessel.
