Fused deposition process Filament material selective cladding (Fused Deposition Modeling) rapid prototyping process is a molding method that does not rely on laser as a molding energy, but heats and melts various wires, referred to as FDM.

The principle of selective cladding of filamentary materials is that the heating nozzle moves in the X-Y plane according to the cross-sectional profile information of the product parts under the control of the computer. Thermoplastic filament materials (such as plastic filament with a diameter of 1.78mm) are sent to the nozzle by the wire feeding mechanism, and are heated and melted into a semi-liquid state in the nozzle, and then squeezed out and selectively coated on the workbench. After rapid cooling, a flake contour is formed. After one layer of cross-section is formed, the worktable is lowered to a certain height, and then the next layer is cladding, as if the cross-section outline is "drawn" layer by layer, and the cycle is like this to finally form a three-dimensional product part. This process method also has a variety of materials to choose from, such as ABS plastic, casting wax, and artificial rubber. This process is clean, easy to operate, does not produce garbage, and a small system can be used in an office environment without the risk of toxic gas and chemical pollution. However, scanning and coating of the entire cross-section is still required, and the molding time is long. It is suitable for conceptual modeling of product design and product shape and function testing. As the methacrylic ABS (MABS) material has good chemical stability, it can be sterilized by gamma rays, which is especially suitable for medical use. However, the molding accuracy is relatively low, and it is not suitable for making parts with overly complex structures.

The advantages of FDM rapid prototyping technology are:

1.
