Mumetal is a NiFe alloy with very high permeability, so it is also called permalloy. Now Transmart will introduce you more about the high efficiency mumetal cores.

Permalloy refers to an iron-nickel alloy, and its nickel content ranges from 35% to 90%. The main feature of Permalloy is its high magnetic field permeability. Their saturation magnetic induction intensity is generally between 0.6-1.0T.

The simplest permalloy is an alloy composed of two elements of iron and nickel. Through proper rolling and heat treatment, they can have high magnetic permeability, and they can also be reasonably matched with the content of iron and nickel to obtain a relatively high saturation magnetic induction intensity. However, this kind of permalloy has low resistivity and poor mechanical properties, so there are not many practical applications.

Permalloy, which is currently widely used, adds some other elements, such as molybdenum and copper, on the basis of iron-nickel. The purpose of adding these elements is to increase the resistivity of the material in order to reduce the eddy current loss after the core is made. At the same time, the addition of elements can also increase the hardness of the material, which is especially beneficial for applications such as magnetic heads that have wear.

The production process of Permalloy is more complicated. For example, the sheet rolling process, annealing temperature, time, and cooling speed after annealing all have a great influence on the final magnetic properties of the material.

Permalloy has high magnetic permeability, so it is often used in the iron core of medium and high frequency transformers or devices with strict sensitivity requirements, such as high frequency (tens of KHz) switching power supply transformers, precision transformers, leakage switch transformers, Magnetic shield, yoke, etc.

Permalloy features:

It has extremely high permeability and low coercivity under weak magnetic field.

These mumetal core magnetics are widely used in high-precision power measurement in power distribution systems, railway networks and large energy-consuming industrial equipment.

Applications of the mumetal cores:

Current Transformers / lPower Transformers

Pulse Transformers / Current Sensors

Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers / Measuring Industry

Performance characteristics:

+ Higher high saturation magnetic induction and high permeability

+ Lower coercivity and iron loss

+ Good stability
