<p>NEW YORK (Reuters)-</p><p>Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Tuesday that a historic outbreak of veterans disease that killed seven New Yorkers triggered an effort to force the city --</p><p>Extensive inspection and cleaning of air-conditioned <a href="https://www.htcoolingtower.com/product" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong><u>cooling towers. </u></strong></a></p><p>Since July 10, the disease has sickened 86 people in New York\'s South Bronx, one of the poorest parts of the United States, the mayor said at a press conference with the city\'s health commissioner.</p><p>Since the last <a href="https://www.htcoolingtower.com/product" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong><u>cooling tower</u></strong></a> disinfection related to the epidemic on Monday, this number may rise and the incubation period for the disease is 10 days. </p><p>But officials say the epidemic has peaked and growth has declined. </p><p>The disease is a serious form of pneumonia that is infected by inhaling smoke from a cooling tower infected with Legion bacteria. </p><p>Of the 17 cooling towers inspected by city health officials, 5 were tested positive. </p><p>All locations completed remediation in South Bronx. </p><p>De Blasio said he will come up with legislation this week to prevent future outbreaks, including regular inspection of cooling towers, new proposals for immediate response to outbreaks, and sanctions against non-compliance with new standards. </p><p>\"The risks of the military have long been underestimated. </p><p>We will be very active in dealing with this issue, \"de Blasio said. </p><p>De Blasio said he believes the city has identified the only location leading to the outbreak, although he acknowledged that the city\'s cooling towers are not fully registered, saying that the new legislation will correct the situation. </p><p>According to health officials in New York City, the supply of drinking water in New York has not been affected by Legion bacteria. </p><p>All those who die from the disease are elderly people with potential medical problems. </p><p>\"People with basic diseases, including chronic lung diseases that may be asthma, may be swollen, or chronic bronchitis, are people at greater risk, and therefore, the potential burden of disease in South Bronx is higher, \"Health Commissioner Bassett said. </p><p>In December 2014, the last veterans outbreak in the city also broke out in Bronx, with 12 people ill. </p><p>According to US media reports, veterans are most common in summer and early autumn.
