New veneer-

Applications based on traditional tablets are constantly developing.

Laminated veneer materials (LVL)

, Is now a mature product, not just a parallel laminated plywood;

Even now, a manufacturer on the West Coast is preparing to produce a large-scale plywood panel (MPP)

This could challenge a layered solid wood system for building high-rise Wood

Based on structure.

The common thread of successful producers is in the manufacture of lower

Produce cost products from available labor, raw materials and capital.

Asia is the main driver of global output growth.

In the past 30 years, China has become the world\'s largest producer with thousands of small factories (Figure 3).

According to the China Forestry Association, only about 10% of plywood made in China is exported.

In the author\'s opinion, China is in a

Given that China\'s forests have been fully utilized, the growth rate is sustainable.

Plywood, a competitor of North American plywood, is a product of global trade.

International trade in plywood has more than doubled to $14.

It was $4 billion in 2015.

2000 6 billion.

According to The Woodworking Network, the Global Plywood Market is expected to reach 223.

Driven by the resumption of construction activities in most countries around the world, it will reach 4 billion cubic meters by 2022;

High value, the rise of high-rise buildings, in the interior design, especially the floors, ceilings and walls, and the healthy furniture industry, the preference for plywood is growing. \" (

Network of carpentry.

In 2022, \"Chinese construction demand drove global plywood growth to October \". 24, 2016).

According to the US Department of Agriculture\'s Foreign Agricultural Service trade data in 2016, the cumulative increase of Cork plywood imported to the United States was 49%, reaching 1. 4 billion (3/8\" basis)

About 15% of U. S. production.

Brazil\'s imports doubled in 2016, as did Canada and Chile.

At present, about 90% Chinese

Domestic plywood is consumed domestically, but over time China may join Brazil and Chile as an important country to export Cork plywood to North America.

As shown in figure 4, imports are roughly equivalent to four larger production

North American factory (

The author defines the large capacity as a factory with a rated capacity of more than 0. 3 billion (3/8\" basis).

Although it has remained stable over the past few years, the long-term decline in the plywood industry in North America is triggering a considerable soul --searching.

Thoughtful questions include what changes have taken place in the market?

What impact will it have in the present and in the long run?

How does this analysis provide a basis for decision-making?

Made on and after 2017?

What can North American producers do in the global market boom?

The four steps customized for each factory can vary. [

Figure 4 slightly]1.

Green end: the key to volume and output.

These steps typically involve the introduction of advanced electronic innovations and the redesign of equipment and processes, while reinventing human processes with an emphasis on engagement and engagement. 2.

Dry end: double efficiency.

Introduce the \"latest generation\" veneer dryer when feasible. State-of-the-art high-speed dryers (

This is also more energy efficient)

Half the floor space production doubled compared to many old systems. 3.

Marketing: The idea of overcoming mistakes.

For many potential users, overcoming the notion of defining plywood, such as wood products that damage the environment or OSB is always equivalent to plywood, and educating the market on new uses for innovation. 4.

Leadership: change the workplace.

In order to effectively integrate renewable resources, advanced manufacturing processes and changing customer needs, best management practices and new collaborative leadership styles are required.

The operating environment will continue to evolve in unpredictable ways.

The best answers will come from innovative \"thinking and practice\" that suit the unique circumstances of each plant \".

\"Survivors\" will be those who are flexible to adapt to change.

OSB, fiber board and other wood panel oriented Strand board (OSB)

Is an amazing example of product acceptance and growth, as it launched the \"plywood for the poor\" in its early 80 s \".

The restructured product has steadily won the market share of plywood.

With OSB being accepted globally, the OSB plant is now located around the globe, with factories distributed in at least 14 countries.

At present, it is entering the market of underwear and furniture frame, which is mainly plywood for a long time.

What is the future of OSB?

Some believe that offshore producers will not become major exporters for many years due to growth in local demand.

Others believe that shipping costs associated with heavy OSB panels are limited to local markets.

In our view, OSB will cross national borders, with the main determinants being manufacturing costs, transportation costs, and monetary relations and trade policies that govern global trade.

Wood in North America is an environment-friendly building material, and protecting the natural environment is becoming more and more important to society.

Wood is more eco-friendly than competitive building materials (Table 5)

According to research by the Renewable Industrial Materials Research Federation (CORRIM).

Plywood and other panel products made in North America are now from renewable resources, from different planting locations and in a wide range.

In fact, the entire delivered timber stem is converted into a single board or a by-product available.

Depending on the North American region, the replanted trees will be ready again for processing by Wood and veneer producers within 25 to 100.

Green panel manufacturing plant in North America. . . Again!

The world is rapidly becoming a single market in which products compete mainly at the delivered selling price.

The unresolved issue is how North American panel producers will remain competitive.

The answer to the textbook is to control the main costs of wood, labor, energy, glue and other chemicals, as well as sales and market logistics costs.

The continuous goal is to provide the highest quality products at the lowest price, while creating profits for shareholders.

This is a difficult task, with high risks.

According to the American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA), the U.

The forest products industry in the United States employs about 937,000 workers, accounting for about 5% of the total population of the United States. S.

The gross domestic product of manufacturing makes the industry roughly the same as the automotive and plastics industries.

The forest products industry is one of the top ten manufacturing employers in 45 states, with shipments exceeding $282 billion in 2015 and an annual salary of about $54 billion.

As turmoil in the wood industry is expected to continue

The US-based panel industry continues to reshape its manufacturing base in North America and around the world.

Short-term profitability

Long term economic cycle and long term

Long-term trends depend on the positioning of the company and its factories in the market.

As investors become more bullish on the panel industry, some ownership has changed.

Capacity expansion and modernization are also in progress. After almost no new construction in the past decade, there are several green space projects, such as medium-dense cardboard.

In 2016, three new China fiber plate factories were built in Mexico.

Several others have been announced or are in the planning phase of other sites in North America. OSB.

A modern large-capacity OSB plant in East Texas is about to be completed and will be put into operation in third quarter of 2017.

Particleboard.

Michigan is building the world\'s largest crusher plant with a completion date of 2018. Plywood.

Two new state-of-the-art facilities for Cork plywood were completed in 2016 (

One in Oregon and the other in Mississippi).

This is the first greenfield plywood factory built in North America in more than 20 years.

In addition, we learned that other new production facilities are in different planning stages.

Although the industry may continue to move right

To better meet demand and oversupply, some of the capacity to close inefficient factories is being replaced by efficient new factories.

People have new confidence in every part of the wood.

By effectively utilizing fibers and other resources to optimize the scale of manufacturing costs, the base industry can make a profit.

There is said to be an old Chinese expression, \"May you live in an interesting time.

\"The current era is characterized by Wood.

Panels based on different applications and technologies, rapidly expanding global demand, and the complexity of trade between countries.

Now is an interesting moment.

Richard, author (\"Dick\")F.

Frederick T.
