The DC-DC converter is a voltage converter that effectively outputs a fixed voltage after converting the input voltage.

DC-DC converters are divided into three categories: boost DC-DC converters, buck DC-DC converters, and buck-boost DC-DC converters. Three types of control can be used according to demand. The PWM control type has high efficiency and has good output voltage ripple and noise. Even if the PFM control type is used for a long time, it has the advantage of low power consumption especially under small load. The PWM-PFM conversion type implements PFM control at light loads, and automatically switches to PWM control at heavy loads.

At present, DC-DC converters are widely used in mobile phones, MP3s, digital cameras, portable media players and other products. It belongs to the chopper circuit in the classification of circuit type.

The DC-DC converter is a voltage converter that effectively outputs a fixed voltage after converting the input voltage.

DC - DC converters are divided into three categories: boost DC-DC converters, buck DC-DC converters, and buck-boost DC-DC converters. It belongs to the chopper circuit in the classification of circuit type.

Voltage mode control and current mode control

There are two methods to control the feedback loop and voltage regulation characteristics of the switched DC-DC converter: voltage mode control and current mode control.

In voltage mode control, the duty cycle of the converter is proportional to the difference between the actual output voltage and the ideal output voltage; in current mode control, the duty cycle is proportional to the rated output voltage and the converter control current function The error difference (the control current can be the switching current in a non-isolated topology or the transformer core current in an isolated topology).

Voltage mode control only responds to changes in output (load) voltage. This means that in order for the converter to respond to changes in load current or input line voltage, it must "wait" for corresponding changes in load voltage. This waiting delay will affect the voltage regulation characteristics of the converter.

If you can respond to changes in load current within a single conversion cycle, the "wait" problem and the corresponding load adjustment compensation related to voltage mode control can be eliminated, and current mode control can do this. Current mode control controls the output current on a pulse-by-pulse basis. In other words, current mode control has superior input transient response and output transient response than voltage mode control.
